THE SCORCHER

JARROTTS are delighted to announce the addition of a new collection of negatives to their already exciting archive.

Taken by an amateur photographer, these fascinating images capture racing in Argentina during the 1940s and 1950s at a time when the country was rapidly developing initially under Juan Peron and his beautiful wife Eva. Eva personally travelled to Europe to drum up support for a new South American motor racing series called the Temporada Races which feature in this archive.

These historical photographs are available to purchase off the wall and to order. JARROTTS offer all of their images as hand printed Silver Gelatin photographs taken from the original negative. Each image can be purchased ready to hang, but is also available loose, or dry mounted/matted with hand cut pale ivory acid-free museum mount - each inscribed individually in Indian ink.

Martin Jordan, partner of JARROTTS says, 'I'm delighted to acquire these handsome images, one of which features the little known Jean-Pierre Wimille in his Simca Gordini chasing the shadows and on his way to victory. By no means easily won, as he battled handsomely with a relatively young and inexperienced Juan Manuel Fangio. Wimille was clearly the best driver of his time and had there been a World Championship in 1948, he would have won it. Sadly his racing was cut short when he died the following year in Argentina during one of the Temporada races. Fangio, for his part, greatly looked up to Wimille who, in addition to being a great racer, had been a Resistance fighter during World War II.'
